Surrounded by family, Dolton W. Norman made his transition to heaven on Sunday, December 14, 2025. Dolton was born in Columbia, SC at the “old” Columbia Hospital to the late Lehman Mayo and Carrie Lee Sharpe Norman on September 8, 1946. Growing up in Columbia, Dolton graduated from Olympia High School.
On June 5, 1971, Dolton married Nova Lee Simmons, and from their union they were blessed with a daughter, Virginia Lee “Gini.” Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Nova Lee Simmons Norman; his daughter, Gini Youmans (Michael Merckle); and grandchildren, Kaylee Youmans (Jimmy Harrington, III), Alyx Youmans, and Caleb Merckle. Surviving family members include sister, Lenora Harmon (Richard); and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Marvin Norman (Margaret); and sister, Pat Snyder (Wayne).
After serving four (4) years in the United States Army, Dolton attended Southern Wesleyan University and the Lutheran Theological Seminary. His career path took him to Midlands Technical College where he taught for 28 years helping students build their skills for a successful career in Machine Tool and Die. Dolton enjoyed exploring and traveling to see the great wonders of the United States after having seen Europe while serving in the military.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at Crossroads World Outreach Center, 2606 Emanuel Church Rd, West Columbia, SC 29170. The family will greet friends beginning at 11:00 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. Celebration of Life Service will begin at 1:00 p.m. Reverend Tom Polk, Reverend Gene Henderson, and Reverend Seth Cain will honor Dolton’s spiritual life. Gini Youmans, his daughter, and Kaylee Youmans, his granddaughter, Alyx Youmans and Caleb Merckle, his grandsons, will share their memories of life with “Pops.” The family is asking that memorials to honor Dolton’s love of missions be sent to Ebenezer Pentecostal Holiness Church, 501 Church Street, West Columbia, SC 29172. Please assign the check to Ebenezer PH Church with the earmark for Aleiah Winchester, missionary to Hungary. The family will receive friends at the residence at other times. Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Lexington Chapel is assisting the family.
