Deborah “Debbie” Hannon Shirley was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. God called her home on June 11, 2022 at the age of 72, in West Columbia, South Carolina. Debbie passed peacefully, surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor her memory all the days of their lives.
Many people knew Debbie to have a beautiful and contagious smile. Despite a life long battle with her health, Debbie always brightened the room with her light, her smile and her precious optimism.
She was born with a rare genetic disease that threatened her immune system and plagued her throughout her life. She overcame the odds over and over through the years to survive breast cancer, lung cancer, heart disease, a stroke, yearly pneumonia, Covid-19 and so much more. It’s hard to believe Debbie is gone. A woman who overcame everything life threw her way. But she is in a better place now, surrounded by Gods love and light, and by her husband, grandson, brother and parents.
Debbie was born to Clayton and Selma Hannon on July 9, 1949. She met and fell in love with Jeff Shirley and they were married in 1976. Together they had three children: Kimberly, Kama, and Krista.
Debbie was predeceased by her parents, Clayton and Selma Hannon; brother, Barry Hannon; husband, Jeff Shirley; and grandson, Nicholas Arnett. She is survived by her daughters, Kimberly Clifford, Kama Heaps, and Krista Shirley; her grandchildren, Kristopher Arnett, Chanse Arnett, Kaiden Park, Elizabeth Heaps, and John Heaps; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 pm, Tuesday, June 21st, 2022 at Barr-Price Funeral Home, 609 Northwood Rd, Lexington, SC 29072. A funeral service will be held 11am, June 22nd, at the United Methodist Church, 1401 Washington St, Columbia, SC 29201.
