Services for Dayton “Odell” Shealy, 78, will be conducted on December 14, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Historic Batesburg- Leesville Chapel, with the Reverend David Cockrell officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Private burial was held at the Hardy Cemetery.
Mr. Odell passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, December 8, 2025. He was born on January 16, 1947, in Columbia, South Carolina, to the late Solomon D. and Lona Black Shealy.
A devoted steward of the land, Odell was a lifelong cattle farmer and poultry grower whose dedication to agriculture shaped both his livelihood and his legacy. In addition to his work on the farm, he spent many years employed with Michelin Tire, where he was known for his strong work ethic and steadfast character.
Deeply committed to his community, both locally and farming, Odell was an active member of numerous organizations, including the Saluda County Cattlemen’sAssociation, the Saluda County Historical Society, the Saluda Soil and Water Conservation District, the Saluda Farm Bureau, the USDA Farm Service Agency and the South Carolina Forestry Commission. His involvement reflected his love for Saluda County and his desire to preserve its history, beauty, and agricultural traditions.
Odell also proudly served his state and country as a veteran of the South Carolina Army National Guard, embodying the values of service and dedication throughout his life.
Surviving are his wife, Davidene “Dene” Shealy (Harley); sons, Reese Shealy and George Tindal Jr.; daughter, Georgia Krewson; sister, Lona Farimae Tate; grandchildren, Justin Shealy (Jeri), Josh Tardiff (Morgan), Hunter Tardiff (Kayla), Dallas Tardiff, Breanna Tindal (Austin) and Michael Krewson Jr.; and 8 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is Louis Ventura (Antonio), Odell’s dedicated assistant. Odell is predeceased by his daughter, Nicole “Nikki” Tardiff (Don); and a grandson, Troy Tardiff.
He will be remembered for his strength, his love of the land, and the lasting impact he made on his family, friends, and community.
