David Eugene Harris, Sr.

Mr. David Eugene Harris, Sr., 87, of Leesville passed away at his home peacefully on Thursday, April 9, 2026. David was born on March 6, 1939 in Gilbert, South Carolina to the late Leon C. Harris and Mary Hair Harris. He was a police officer, where he retired from the New York Police Department. David was also was a member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. He was a very social person, and never met a stranger. David will be affectionately known for his laughter and smile.

Surviving are his special friend, Florence Taylor; sons, Montey’s Harris, and Garfield Harris (J); daughter, Denise Jenkins (David); brother, Joseph Harris; sister, Dorothy Caldwell (Bennie); 9 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren. David is also survived by his favorite great grandchildren, Sincere and Giovanni. He was predeceased by his wife of 35 years, Valdoris Phillip Harris; daughter, Tania Morgan; and sisters, Sarah Sumpter and Dottie Speath.

Homegoing services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 18, 2026 Friendship Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. James Duncan officiating. Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Historic Batesburg-Leesville Chapel is assisting the Harris family with arrangements.
