Mrs. Christine McCarty Oswalt, 82, of Leesville, passed away peacefully at home, Tuesday, May 19, 2026. She was born December 14, 1943, to the late Harmon and Oneida Holley McCarty. Christine, also known as Chris and fondly called Grandma Tine by grandchildren, was a lifelong resident of Leesville and had worked over 50 years as a cosmetologist/hairdresser, in the community. She was the most patient, selfless person; always caring for others and volunteering her time. She was a former scout leader, involved in school and PTO, and biggest supporter of her children’s and grandchildren’s activities and sports. She loved spending time with family, especially taking vacations at the beach, mountains and lake. She enjoyed plants, hummingbirds and all of nature’s critters that came with it.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Douglas Oswalt; daughters Marcia (Jody) Gunter and Holly (Michael) Guy, son Mark Oswalt; grandchildren Andrew Gettys, Marshall Gettys, Cooper Gettys, Dalton Oswalt, Chance Oswalt, Mikayle Guy, Alyssa Guy; 2 great grandsons; sister Sharon Burkett, along with many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, brother Larry McCarty, grandson Christopher Oswalt and great granddaughter Tinsley Gettys.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 24, 2026 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at Barr Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Historic Batesburg-Leesville Chapel. A Memorial Service will be held 3:00pm, Monday, May 25, 2026 at Leesville Methodist Church. A private burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Leesville Methodist Church, 510 E. Columbia Ave, Leesville, SC 29070 or to an organization of your choice that supports research for Parkinson’s disease and/or Alzheimer’s disease.
The family would like to thank the wonderful care provided by Agape Hospice, her special caregivers Shay, Keywanna and previous home health nurse Shannon and therapist Pamela.
