Charles Davenport Obituary

Charles was born in Columbia, SC on March 14, 1941.  He grew up in Cayce, SC and attended Brookland Cayce High School. He spent most of his life living in Lexington, SC. 

After graduating from high school, He attended the University of South Carolina where he obtained an English degree.  He met and fell in love with Joyce Keisler and they were married on December 30, 1967.  He spent 6 years in the US Army Reserves from 1964-1970.  He began his career in insurance not long after for which he stayed in until he retired.  He was a devout Christian and member of the Church of Christ and had a role in starting a few churches in the area.  He and Joyce were most recently members of the Twin City Church of Christ in Batesburg-Leesville, for which they helped start.  He was an avid reader and had a strong passion for foster children through his support of the Southeastern Children’s Home.  He was a devoted father and husband, and he was always so proud of all his children and grandchildren. 

Charles is survived by his 3 children, Michael (wife, Judy), Darren and Kurt (wife, Elisia); and his grandchildren, Hannah, Evan, Bo and Pete. 

He was predeceased by his wife, Joyce Davenport; and his parents, Irvin Rochel Davenport and Mary Magdalene Stockman. 

Funeral service will be conducted 2:00 pm Friday, November 21, 2025 at St. Andrews Road Church of Christ. Burial will follow at Celestial Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm prior to the service at the church.  In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to Twin City Church of Christ, P.O. Box 2239, Leesville, SC 29070. Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Lexington Chapel is assisting the family.
