Chad Jerald Hancock of Gilbert, SC went home to be with his Lord on January 25, 2023. Born on May 18, 1971, Chad's life was made complete by his love story with his wife of nine years, Stephanie Long. He and Stephanie added further joy to their lives when they became parents. Colby (5) and Elizabeth (3) delighted in his daily attentiveness and guidance, along with Stephanie's devotion as wife and mother.
Chad graduated from Gilbert High School and worked for more than three decades at Hitachi Rail (formerly WABCO/Union Switch & Signal) in Batesburg, SC.
He was the beloved son of Janet Price Hancock, who called him "Chad Apples," and Jerald & Ann Hancock, all of Gilbert, SC. He was lovingly called "Tacklebox" by Stephanie's parents, Tony and Ann Long, of Lexington, SC. A member of the Hancock, Price, and Long families, Chad enjoyed the close-knit, loving family relationships he cherished. Extended family will continue to lift up Stephanie and the children: Chris (Sonya) Hancock, Laurie Hancock (Gene) Hawks, Steve (Amy) Hughes, Kym Hughes (Randy) Smith, Tonya Long (Chad) Fabian, Michael Long, Anthony Long, uncles and aunts, numerous nieces and nephews.
Whether fishing with Stephanie, Colby, and Elizabeth, working in his shop, camping with the family, playing tennis, or sharing daily routines with Stephanie, Chad always provided comfort, joy, and spiritual guidance for his beloved Stephanie, Colby, and Elizabeth. He was a devoted disciple of Jesus and was an active member of First Baptist Church on Barr Road.
When he met Stephanie, he knew she was a gift from God. Chad, Stephanie, their children, and family members shared a mutual love and respect for one another. Stephanie encourages everyone to celebrate the qualities that made Chad a devoted husband, father, son, brother, nephew, uncle, cousin, and friend.
