Carroll Allen “Sam” Harmon, 83, of Lexington, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. A lifetime resident of Lexington, Sam was a man deeply rooted in his family, faith, and community.
He was the son of the late John Hubert and Nina Lindler Harmon and the devoted husband of Wanda Ouzts Harmon, with whom he shared 59 glorious years.
Sam graduated from Lexington High School and attended Clemson University before returning home to follow his passion for working the soil on the family homestead. Farming remained one of the greatest joys of his life, and he continued to farm until the age of 82. When he was not in the fields, Sam dedicated many years of service as a rural letter carrier with the Lexington Post Office. During his tenure, he was an active member of the South Carolina Rural Letter Carriers Association.
A faithful servant to his community, Sam was a lifetime member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, where he served on various committees and was a member of the Golden Agers. He also volunteered as a firefighter with the Lake Murray Volunteer Fire Department and belonged to the Lake Murray Community Club. An avid sports fan, Sam passionately followed Clemson football for many years.
In addition to his parents, Sam was predeceased by his beloved son, Christopher Allen Harmon.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Ouzts Harmon; his children, Michele (Ted) Zee and Angie (Jason) Williams of Lexington, and John (Shab) Harmon of Simpsonville; his brother, Jerry “Butch” Harmon; seven grandchildren, TJ (Erin), Carleigh (Drew), Drew, Jared, Sydney (Hampton), CJ, and Andy; and one great-grandchild, Theodore.
Sam was known for his loyalty and his willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Known lovingly as Daddy, PopPop, and Poppa, he often shared a favorite saying passed down from his father: “It will feel better when it quits hurting.” His family takes great comfort in knowing that he now feels better and is no longer in pain.
A funeral service will be held at St. Peter's Lutheran Church on Sunday, March 15 at 3pm. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service beginning at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Peter's Lutheran Church cemetery fund 1130 St. Peter’s Road Lexington, SC 29072.
