Mrs. Caroline Clay Perry Cunningham, 74, of Leesville passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Saturday, April 4, 2026. She was born on May 13, 1951 in Lexington, Kentucky to the late John Thomas Perry and Sara Ceil Herr. Caroline was a graduate of the University of South Carolina where she earned her Master's degree in Education and was president of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. Caroline taught special education at Ridge Spring Monetta Elementary School for over 28 years. She had a special heart for those who struggled to learn; and because of that Caroline will be forever remembered by all she helped throughout her teaching career. Devoted to her faith, she was a member of Batesburg-Leesville Presbyterian where she served as an elder. Caroline was also a member of the Batesburg-Leesville Study Club and Friends of the Library (Lexington County). During her spare time, Caroline was an avid reader and loved her fur babies.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Jack Cunningham; and brothers, John T. Perry, III, and Benjamin Perry. Caroline is predeceased by her sister, Jean Perry.
A celebration of life will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday April 7, 2026 at Batesburg-Leesville Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Don Marshall officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Batesburg-Leesville Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 2089, B-L SC 29070 or to an animal shelter of one’s choice. Mr. Jack would like to give a special thank you to the Batesburg-Leesville Fire Department, and Lexington County EMS for their assistance during Caroline’s illness, to the compassionate nurses with Amedisys Hospice for their love and care, and to Batesburg-Leesville Presbyterian Church for all the love and acts of kindness shown during the last 3 months.
