Carol Helmi Prausa Coleman Obituary

Carol Helmi Prausa Coleman, 84, passed away in the early morning hours of May 13, 2022. She was the daughter of the late Fred Prausa and the late Margaret and Bill Hildebrand of Washington State.

Carol is survived by her three children;  Deena Burr (Wayne), Debbie Thomas (Don), and David Coleman (Lisa);  five grandchildren,  Krista Cox (Divine), Jay Knisley (Nicole), Wesley Burr (Caroline), Hunter Coleman, Jacob Burr;  six great grandsons, (DJ, Donavon and Kameron Cox) (Weston, Coleman and Judson Burr);  great granddaughter (Adeline Knisley), two brothers, Jack Prausa(Mary) of New Jersey and Mike Hildebrand of Washington State.

Carol is predeceased in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, Harvey David Coleman.

Carol and Harvey moved with their three children to the east coast from Washington State in 1974.  After living in Virginia and Georgia, they finally settled in Chapin, SC on Lake Murray where Carol and Harvey loved to sail and entertain. They loved having company and there was often an impromptu lake party happening at the Colemans!  Carol was an avid gardener and loved being outside enjoying the view. Between her garden and her flowers, she was often found outside in the sun.  The Colemans were very close, and all three children chose to settle down in the areas around Columbia to be closer to them.  All five grandchildren were blessed to spend time at the lake with Grandma and Grandpa and get to know them well. They were able to enjoy many family times together.

Carol was a 50+ year member of the PEO Sisterhood, a philanthropic educational organization dedicated to women helping women with educational financial needs. She and Harvey were also members of St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church in Chapin where they were both highly active and where Carol’s culinary skills were appreciated by everyone, including the many children’s camps that she prepared food for every summer.

The family would like to thank the caregivers of Medical Services of America Hospice and McLeod Home Health Care for their wonderful care of Carol over the last several months.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 26, 2022, at 4:00 pm with a memorial service immediately following at 5:00pm.   Visitation and Memorial service will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church, 735 Old Lexington Highway, Chapin, SC 29036.  Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Lexington Chapel is assisting the family.

In lieu of flowers, Carol would have loved a donation to her beloved PEO Sisterhood.  Donations can be made online at donations.peointernational.org.
