Brian Linton Phillips, born in Spartanburg, South Carolina on December 5, 1959, passed away unexpectedly on December 14, 2025.
Affectionally known as “Rosco” by his friends and family, Brian became a lifelong resident of the Columbia area in 1961. He attended Satchel Ford Road Elementary School, Wildewood School, Riverside Military Academy, and Spring Valley High School. After graduating from Spring Valley in 1978, he attended Spartanburg Methodist College.
In 1980, Brian enlisted in the US Navy where he served for four years as a Radio Operator on the Ballistic Submarine, James Madison, reaching the rank of Radiomen Second Class. Following his discharge from the Navy, Rosco worked at Circuit City, WP Law, Inc., and for R&L Carriers.
In his youth, Rosco enjoyed summers at the family's cabin on Lake Murray where he developed his love of watersports and fishing. His retirement was devoted to his pets, motorcycling, home maintenance, and playing the guitar. He enjoyed playing the guitar at various correction facilities in the Columbia area and sharing the Gospel whenever possible.
Brian is survived by his daughter, Kayla Sox; father, Linton Phillips; sister, Karen Law and husband, Flip; nephew, Justin Law and wife, Lauren, nephew, Seth Law and wife, Hannah; niece, Jessica Law; three grandnephews, Nathan, David, and Everett Law; and cousins, Rodney and Russell Hardeman.
He was predeceased by his mother, Sonja Phillips; and his only aunt, Charlotte Hardeman.
Memorial Services for Brian will be held at Barr-Price Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel on Thursday, December 18th. Visitation will begin at 2pm with the funeral service to follow at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial contributions to Palmetto Lifeline, 1225 Bowers Parkway, Columbia, S.C. 29212 or an animal rights organization of your choosing.
