Billie Jean McCaston Elmore, 71, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2019, surrounded by her children. She was born December 4, 1947, in Columbia, SC to the late William McCaston and the late Peggy Ellison. She was the second oldest of five children, three of which predeceased her in death; brothers, William “Bubba” McCaston, Jr. and Keith McCaston, and sister, Deborah Reece. She was married to the late Robert Elmore for 22 years before his death in 2015.
Billie Jean leaves to cherish her loving memory her three children; Tammy Dawson of Lexington, Lisa (Tim) Gillespie of Swansea and Tommy (Cindy) Furtick of Gaston; 7 grandchildren, Ray Steele, Curtis Steele, Justin Jeffcoat, Savannah Furtick, Emily Furtick, Kalá Dooley and Austin Crosby; 8 great-grandchildren; brother Butch Wilson (Linda); special Aunts Kathy McCaston and Connie Edwards; a host of nieces and nephews; special friends, Stephanie Napier, Lora Kutz, Janie Sharpe, Winnie Witt and Eva Shealy.
Billie Jean was a longtime member of Christian Fellowship Baptist Church. She loved reading, crocheting and spending time with her family and friends. She was a loving and caring person, devoted mother and friend who was always thinking of others first. To know her was to love her. She will be remembered as a strong, selfless woman who always wore a smile, even when times were tough. Billie Jean had a quiet strength and never complained. Her character and temperament were best shown after her diagnosis in November of 2018. Billie Jean had every right to cry, be mad and even fall into depression after her diagnosis but instead she loved and lived every moment she was given. Neither hard times nor her illness would rob her of who she was. She never lost faith and accepted God’s plan until he called her home.
A celebration of life service will be held on July 5, 2019, at 2 p.m. at Christian Fellowship Baptist Church, 4625 US-321, Gaston, SC, with Pastors Jim Crowell and Rex Simmons officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at 1 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the wonderful help and care given by Prisma Health Hospice. A special thank you to Hospice Nurse, Mary Gantt and home health aids Jackie and Louise, for their compassion and loving care they provided during Billie Jean’s short illness.
