Billie H. Thomas, 92, of Lexington, SC died on May 16, 2023. She was the daughter of the late Edith Edgeworth and Thurston True and adoptive father, Ralph Haddon.
Billie was born on August 12, 1930, and lived most of her life in the Columbia area. She was considered a true pioneer for women in her field and became one of South Carolina’s first female CPA’s. She attended the University of Georgia and graduated from the University of South Carolina. She started her career as an accountant for the S.C. State Highway Department and then joined the accounting firm of Clarkson, Harden & Gantt as CPA and Partner, where she managed the data processing division. She later started her own company, Applied Computer Services LLC.
Billie was known by most as Billie T. and spent many hours with Mousetrap friends. She loved all sports and was an avid Gamecock fan. She had many interests and hobbies ranging from the HS marching band (xylophone), archery, dove hunting and fishing. She was a wiz at card games, cross word puzzles and absolutely loved jigsaw puzzles. Rarely a day went by that she didn’t exercise her mind. She enjoyed summer vacations at the beach with her children and grandchildren and shared with them her love of fishing.
She is survived by three daughters, Lynn Thomas Gore (late Douglas Gore), Patricia Brooks Thomas Herpst and Sandra Lee Thomas; three grandsons, Thomas Anthony Gore (Edie), Dargan Murrah Gore (Jessica) and James Charlton Herpst; granddaughters, Erika Taylor (Blake), Ashley Garcia and five great grandchildren.
Billie is predeceased by her husband, James Dargan Thomas, and stepbrother, Grier.
Billie lived her life her way to the end. Her family and friends will miss her greatly.
