Betty Tucker Carr Obituary

Betty Tucker Carr—loving wife, mother, sister, Nana, aunt, cousin, and friend—passed gracefully into the arms of our Lord on Saturday, April 19, 2025. Born on June 24, 1952, to Earl and Catherine Tucker in Wilmington, North Carolina, Betty was raised in a home full of love and strong faith—foundations that guided her throughout her life.

Betty’s faith was unwavering and deeply rooted from an early age. It was the light that led her through life’s joys and sorrows. She found peace in the simple things: a walk on the beach in her favorite flip-flops, cuddles with her beagle Bagel and cat Midnight, and time spent with the family and friends she cherished so deeply.

After a fulfilling career at the VA Hospital, Betty retired in January 2014, taking with her not only 26 years of service but lifelong friendships. Her compassion and warmth touched the hearts of all who knew her.

She was predeceased by her parents, Earl and Catherine Strickland Tucker, and her beloved daughters, Karen Renee and Shannon Beth.

Betty leaves behind her devoted husband of 29 years, George Carr; daughters, Tonia Fowler (Jared), Wendy Bolt (Terry), and Melissa Carr; brother, Wayne Tucker (Beth); sister, Diane Tucker (Brooke Swinson); grandchildren, Jay Brightwell, Sebastian Brightwell (Christine), Logan Kelleher (Emily), Geremy Carr (Ashley), Katie Anderson, Lester Anderson, and Nathan Carr; great-grandchildren, Zofia Brightwell, Jaden Carr, Mason Carr, Nikki Chartand, Madison Willard, Lily Willard, and Gracie Anderson; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Her light lives on in every life she touched.

Service will be held at her home church, Trinity Church 1501 Hallbrook Drive, Columbia, SC on Saturday, May 10, 2025. Family will welcome visitors at 10am with services at 11am. Barr-Price Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, is assisting the family.
