Betty Irene Irby Goodale
Betty Irene Irby Goodale, 89, of Lexington, SC, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2025, at Lexington Medical Center. Born on December 10, 1935, in Lando, SC, she was the beloved daughter of the late Clarence Fennell Irby and Willie Mae Parrish Irby.
A devoted wife, mother, nana, sister, aunt, and cherished friend, Betty’s kindness and warmth touched all who knew her. She was a source of unwavering love and strength, a guiding light in the lives of her family and many dear friends.
She is survived by her loving sons, Russell Goodale (Beth) and David Goodale (Kelly); her adored grandson, Blake Goodale (Samantha Burnette); her brother, Richard Irby (Jan); and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. She was reunited in heaven with her beloved husband, James “Jimmy” Goodale, as well as her siblings, Bernice Coggins, Nell Vinson, Gertie Wyatt, CF Irby, Roland Irby, and Wayne Irby.
A dedicated homemaker, Betty found her greatest joy in the company of her family and friends. She held a special place in the hearts of many, serving as a second mother to numerous firefighters at the Irmo Fire Department. Her faith was an integral part of her life, and she was a devoted member of Faith United Methodist Church in Lexington, SC.
A celebration of Betty’s life will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, March 28, 2025, at Bush River Memorial Gardens, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212. Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation following the service at the cemetery. Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Lexington Chapel, is assisting the family during this time.
In honor of Betty’s life and legacy, memorial contributions may be made to Faith United Methodist Church, 5151 Sunset Blvd, Lexington, SC 29072.
