Betty Carol Lambert Newton
July 10, 1937 – March 28, 2026
Betty Newton, 88, went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 28, 2026 in Swansea, South Carolina.
She was born on July 10, 1937, in Andrews, South Carolina to Rueben and Lila Lambert. Upon marrying her husband of 55 years, she relocated to the Lexington, South Carolina area. Betty and her husband, Rev. John Newton, spent more than fifty years faithfully ministering together spreading the good news of Jesus Christ through song and word. Her love for their ministry shone brightly through the many ways she served their congregations.
She was also known for her unfailing devotion to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Some of her greatest joys were in giving of herself to them. Whether she answered to Mom, Mama, Granny, Grandma, Grandmama, Nena or Memaw, she was always there for them. She will surely be missed.
Betty is survived by her four children, James (Katherine) Newton of Rock Hill, SC, Steve (Sheila) Newton of Lexington, SC, Mark (Donna) Newton of Sandy Run, SC, and Gwen (Tim) Jeffcoat of Swansea, SC; her grandchildren, Amber (David) Howells, Kayla (David) Dodson, Jason (Amanda) Newton, Tori Newton, Kevin (Sarah) Newton, Amy Newton, Lauren (Will) Padgett, Aston Jeffcoat, Kristin (Chad) Stewart, and Austin Jeffcoat; fourteen great-grandchildren; two step-granddaughters; four step great-grandchildren; and Judi Newton, daughter in love. She also leaves behind many extended family members and friends who will cherish her memory.
She is now reunited in her heavenly home with her loving husband, Rev. John Newton; her father, Reuben Lambert; her mother, Lila Lambert; her brothers, Bryant (Marguarite) Lambert, Raymond (Gertrude) Lambert, George W. (Stenza) Lambert, and Michael Lambert; and one sister, Lila (George) Cumbie.
Pallbearers are her grandsons, Austin Jeffcoat, Jason Newton, Kevin Newton, David Howells, David Dodson, and Chad Stewart and her great-grandsons, London Padgett and Nathan Newton.
The Celebration of Life service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on April 2, 2026, at St. Paul Pentecostal Holiness Church, 648 St. Matthews Road, Swansea, SC, with the Rev. H. Larry Jones officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Southland Memorial Gardens, 820 W. Dunbar Rd, West Columbia, SC.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to St. Paul IPHC, PO Box 219, Swansea, SC 29160.
Betty’s legacy of faith, dedication and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
