Barbara Jean Wheatley Dickinson

Barbara Jean Dickinson, née Wheatley, of Lexington, S.C. aged 96 passed away peacefully on January 10th, 2026 with family at her bedside.

Born in Indiana, in her early childhood Barbara and her family relocated to Miami, Florida, where she resided for the majority of her adult life. An active member of the banking industry, Barbara, together with husband Lester, and son Steve, were enthusiastic supporters of the University of Miami’s football team, being season ticket holders for many years. Lovers of the ocean and beach, these years were filled with days in the sun enjoying time with family and friends.

Barbara spent her early retirement years in Douglasville, Georgia, where she cared for both her and her husband’s mothers, as well as her husband, Lester, to their life’s end. During their time in Douglasville, Barbara and Lester were active members of Central Baptist Church, with Barbara being the “Kitchen Coordinator” for weekly meals for many years, as well as a church service pianist and organist. Music was a large part of her life, she lovingly spoke of her childhood with memories of her father, a musician, and her own love of playing music, her favorite being the piano, both at home and for her church. Having an adventurer’s heart and a lifelong desire to travel not yet met, after Lester’s death, Barbara embarked on many cross-country road trips while in her seventies. Her later retirement years were spent in Englewood, Florida, where she resided next door to her son Steve until his death. These years were spent playing cards and creating community with friends built around multiple times a week card-playing sessions. Most recently, Barbara has resided in Lexington, SC enjoying time with her grandchildren, Sandra and Michelle and their families.

Throughout her long life, commitment to Jesus Christ as her Savior, family as her backbone, and church and friends as her community, Barbara was a devout Christian, a strong and determined woman and a shining example of how to live. She will be missed greatly.

Barbara is predeceased by her first husband Jimmy Lamb and John Lester Dickinson, son Steven Lamb. She is survived by her granddaughters Sandra Lamb Dawkins (Scot) and Michelle Lamb Lester (John), her great-grandchildren Raine and Carson Lester, Tanner (Alyssa), Alex, and Katie Dawkins, and her great-great grandchild, Walker, as well as many extended family members across South Carolina, Georgia and Florida.

A burial service will be held at Central Baptist Church located at 5811 Central Church Rd., Douglasville, GA, at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 25, 2026, with a visitation preceding beginning at 1:00 p.m. Barr-Price Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, is assisting the family.
