Barbara C Stephenson

Barbara C. Stephenson, formerly a resident of Douglasville, GA, passed away on October 12, 2019 at the age of 82. At the time of her death, she was living in Lexington, SC

Barbara was a graduate of Murphy High School Class of 1956 in Atlanta and a graduate of Georgia State University in 1960 with a degree in Business Administration and Elementary Education.  Her early career was teaching the 2nd grade at Macon Drive Baptist School where she later became principal.  She thrived on her love for young children.  Subsequent to her teaching position, she was employed by the Atlanta Gas Light Company as Director of Training for many years and concluded her professional career as an instructor with Literacy Action.

Barbara was predeceased by her husband Robert L. Stephenson and son, John Timothy Stephenson.  She is survived by her long term friend, Lee Redman of Forest Park, GA,  2 sisters, Mary Neel of Marietta, GA and Susan Bickelhaupt of Lexington, SC, nieces Diane Phalen (Mickey) of Woodstock, GA, Stephanie Clark (Matt) of Decatur, GA and Allison Stapleton (Scott) of Leesville, SC as well as 5 grand-nephews and 4 grand-nieces, all of whom she loved deeply.

Graveside services for the Celebration of Barbara’s life will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday.  October 15, at Westview Cemetery, 1680 Westview Drive, SW, Atlanta, GA 30310 with the Reverend Elizabeth Byrd, Associate Pastor from Peachtree Road United Methodist Church.
