Ann Hartley McDaniel Obituary

Ann Hartley McDaniel was born to parents, Fletcher Hartley, Sr. and Roxie Kneece Hartley of Batesburg. Her siblings included Gibson Hartley of Batesburg, Paul Hartley of Monetta, Lucille Quattlebaum of Aiken, Marie Boatwright of Leesville, Fletcher Hartley, Jr. of Lexington, and Denzil Hartley of Batesburg. Ann was the last surviving member of this family. She was married to James McDaniel of Leesville for thirteen years. Afterwards, Ann became part of the Derrell and Marie Boatwright family. Ann was the honorary second mother to her nephew, Greg Boatwright, and her niece, Lesia Boatwright. Ann was fascinated with the clothing business and pursued a career as a clothier with various stores, including Addy’s and Mae’s for 47 years. Her leading personality and her excellent eye for ensemble created a reputation as a trusted clothier. Ann’s clients were extremely loyal to her because they knew she would only recommend clothing that complimented them.

Ann was a member of St. Paul’s Methodist Church in Leesville, where she attended for over forty years Subsequently, she attended Virginia Wingard Memorial United Methodist Church in Columbia. She met many wonderful people at Virginia Wingard and melded into the church family instantly. They loved her and her sister, Marie, and treated them as their own. A large part of Ann’s social life was based on the performances and events that her nephew, Greg, organized in Columbia. She reveled in all the concerts, shows, church services, weddings, dinners, etc. and became a resounding cheerleader for the success of the events. Ann adored her niece, Lesia, who became her right hand in all things including caring for Ann in her last years. Ann walked with and talked to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, every day. She was a tremendous prayer warrior who will be sorely missed by her remaining family and loved ones. We thank God for Ann’s life, which includes her outstanding fortitude and her strong faith in Christ, setting an example for us all and giving us inspiration to continue going forward and submitting to God’s plan for us all.

A private entombment and celebration of Ann’s life will be held for the family and friends on Sunday, October 12, 2025 at Christ the Good Shepherd Mausoleum at Ridge Crest Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Virginia Wingard Memorial United Methodist Church, 1500 Broad River Road, Columbia, SC 29210.
