Alice Screws Altman, 80, of Lexington, SC met Jesus Christ her Savior face-to-face on August 11, 2025. She was born Alice Kate Screws on September 8, 1944, to Bill and Edna Screws in Dozier, Alabama. She graduated from Greenwood High School and worked for Frank Addy Jewelers in Greenwood, SC.
Alice married Frank H. Altman on July 19, 1964. She was a loving wife and full-time mother for 12 years before beginning her accounting and customer service career. She worked at J.C. Penney in Columbia, SC, and Athens, GA. She returned to the Cayce/West Columbia area in 1982 and began working for Southeastern Freight Lines in 1984. She retired from Southeastern in 2017 after 33 years of service.
Alice enjoyed time with family and friends. She loved music and avidly supported her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in their musical and sports interests and activities. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Cayce, SC.
Alice was predeceased by her parents, William “Bill” T. and Edna Smith Screws; her sister-in-law, Virginia Screws; and her husband, Frank Altman. She is survived by her brothers, Don and Ted (Andrea) Screws; her children, Howard (Janet) Altman, Ted (Tammy) Altman, Dawn (Jason) Germain, and Kevin Altman; her grandchildren, Lauren (Rob) Brannan, Timothy Altman, Daniel (Jenny) Altman, Jennifer (John) Crews, Thomas Altman, Jeffrey Altman, Tyler (Madelyn) Altman, and Turner Altman; and her great-grandchildren, Addyson “Addy” and Avery Brannan, James Crews, Keith Altman, William “Liam” Altman, and McKenna “Kenna” Altman, who will never forget the love she brought to their lives.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on August 17, 2025 at 3:00 PM at Trinity Baptist Church, 2003 Charleston Highway, Cayce, SC 29033. The family will receive visitors prior to the service beginning at 2:00 PM.
Memorials may be made in her honor to the Music Ministry at Trinity Baptist Church.
