Alice Jane "Janie" B. Scircle

Alice Jane Barrett Scircle, “Janie”, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Wednesday, April 17, 2024. Janie was born in Columbia, South Carolina, May 2, 1942 to Charles Henry and Lottie Jane Boney Barrett. They welcomed her younger sister, Beth, in May, 1943.

Janie grew up in Lexington and attended Lexington Schools where she had many academic and personal achievements, including being voted “Prettiest” in her graduating class. Janie graduated from Lexington High School in 1960. 

She went on to marry her childhood sweetheart, Walter Scott Scircle “Scotty”, on September 2, 1962 and they had 3 children, Todd, Chris, and Amy; six grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren.

Janie was a loving mother and homemaker. She took great pride in raising her children and keeping a lovely home. She was a wonderful grandmother and her grandchildren all loved her dearly and will cherish many precious memories. 

Janie loved spending time with family and friends. She loved sharing a cup of coffee, watching birds, telling stories and making everyone laugh. She loved to cook, to teach others to cook and often prepared meals and baked wonderful cakes for family and friends. 

She leaves behind her sister, Beth Mathias (Tillman) of Lexington, who was her best friend and with whom she shared a lifetime of memories. She is also survived by her children, Todd Scircle (Kimberly), Chris Scircle (Tammi) and Amy Keel (Bruce); as well as her grandchildren, Amanda Guyton (Matthew), Emily Scircle, Barrett Keel, Hunter Keel, Brian Scircle and Garrett Scircle; and great grandchildren, Emma and Leo Guyton. 

Janie is predeceased by her parents, Charles Barrett, Jane Barrett Horton, Paul Horton and her beloved husband of 61 years, Scotty.

The family would like to thank the many family and special friends who were so dedicated to visit Janie. They would also like to thank the staff of Carroll Campbell Place for their loving care of Janie in her final days. 

A graveside service will be held 2:00 pm Monday, April 22, 2024 at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church Cemetery in Lexington. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Lexington Chapel is assisting the family.
