Alfred LaVone Derrick, 88, of Chapin, SC passed to our Lord on Sunday, May 24, 2026.
LaVone was born in Irmo, SC. and was a son of the late Wilbur and Ernestine Weed Derrick. He was a graduate of Irmo High School and served in the Army National Guard. LaVone was an engineer at General Electric in Irmo where he retired. LaVone enjoyed coaching Dutch Fork Dixie Youth baseball and Chapin Rocket softball. He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in White Rock, SC where he was a current member of Lutheran Men and had taught Sunday School, served on council, among other committees. LaVone loved his family and church most of all. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and other outdoor activities.
Lavone is survived by his wife Frances; son, Allan (Donna) Derrick; daughter, Cindy (Jim) Takach, brother Stanely (Susan) Derrick; five grandchildren, Amanda (Russ) Rainesewski, Brandi Derrick (deceased), Katie (Paul) Frick, Bridget (Devin) Swindall, Jimmy (Jenny) Takach, Brianna (Adam) Kerr. LaVone also has 11 great grandchildren and 7 nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brothers, Leroy, Preston (Jenette) Derrick and sisters, Vivian (Fred) Reedy and Hazel (Sam) Hilborn.
There will be a celebration of life at Bethel Lutheran Church in White Rock on Sunday, June 7, 2026 at 4:00 PM. The family will receive friends at the church fellowship hall following the service. Barr-Price Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, is assisting the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethel Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund.
