Albert Willsie “Wickey” Shumpert, Jr., 74, passed away on January 10, 2026, in Lexington, South Carolina. Wickey was born on March 27, 1951, in Columbia, South Carolina, and was devoted to his family and community.
Wickey was the beloved husband of the late Pamela F. Shumpert and the cherished son of the late Albert Willsie Shumpert Sr. and Mary Hall Shumpert. He is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Jennifer Pauly (Russell), and his son, Jason Shumpert. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Kaytlin Counts (Kaminer), Russell Pauly, Sara Rucker (Brandon), and Dalton Shumpert; as well as his great-grandsons Boone and Brixton Counts. The family also looks forward to welcoming Baby Rucker in May 2026. Wickey is also survived by his sister, Vicki Freeman (Charlie), who shared a lifelong bond with him.
A proud South Carolinian through and through, Wickey was an avid Carolina Gamecock football fan. Saturdays in the fall were sacred times for him—filled with team spirit and camaraderie. You could always find him in his Gamecock attire any day of the week. His passion for sports extended beyond football; he loved traveling to follow the World of Outlaws Dirt Track Racing circuit. These adventures brought him a lot of thrill and excitement and allowed him to connect with fellow racing enthusiasts and race car drivers across the country. Wickey owned several tractors, with his last being a Massey Ferguson. You could find him riding around his yard on that tractor or checking the mail with his golf cart on any afternoon.
Wickey’s friendly nature made him a familiar face at Lexington Extended Care, where he could often be found greeting visitors with a warm smile and kind word. His sociable spirit brought comfort to many within the facility’s walls. He had a special way of making people feel welcome—whether they were longtime friends or new acquaintances.
He also had a deep love for food—especially barbeque—which he enjoyed sharing with those around him. Mealtimes were more than just nourishment; they were moments of connection and celebration. He looked forward to meals with his family members and also liked to get meals delivered by Doordash as well.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the entire staff at Lexington Extended Care for their compassionate support throughout Wickey’s time there. Special thanks go to Dr. Rex and his medical team for their exceptional care and dedication.
May his memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved him. A Graveside Service led by Pastor Tommy McGill will be held on January 15, 2026, at 02:00 PM at Southland Memorial Gardens, 700 W Dunbar Road, West Columbia, South Carolina 29170. Pallbearers will be Russell Pauly II, Dalton Shumpert, Brandon Rucker, Kaminer Counts, Michael Freeman, and Austin Freeman.
Barr-Price Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, is assisting the family.
