William (Pete) H (Jr) Peterson

William Hilliard (Pete) Peterson, Jr. was united with his Lord on the morning of June 2nd in Irmo, SC.  He was 89.  Pete was born and lived his early years in Jonesboro, Arkansas with his parents, a sister and two brothers, all of whom preceded him in death.  He attended Little Rock High School, Little Rock Junior College and graduated from Arkansas State College where he majored in Business Administration.

In Fort Smith, Arkansas on Easter Sunday 1955, he met the love of his life, Dorcas Ann Kersh. They married in 1956, began a family and soon moved to Little Rock where Pete was employed with GMAC.  His employment took him to Hope Arkansas, which the family called home for 33 years before moving to Irmo in 2000.  He retired after a lengthy career with GMAC and pursued his love of carpentry, gardening and fishing.

Pete served his country for eight years in the Arkansas National Guard obtaining the rank of Sergeant.  He was a deacon in the Southern Baptist church, Sunday school teacher, leader of Royal Ambassadors and most recently, a faithful member of Riverland Hills Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Dorcas, two children, David Hilliard (Gwendolen Johnston), Emily (Chuck) Jones, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to Samaritan’s Purse or Oliver Gospel Mission.
