Tommy Bynum Cotton, husband of Shirley W. Cotton, passed away on January 12th after a long battle with heart disease, surrounded by his loving family. Tommy was born on March 11, 1934 to the late Bynum and Eva Mae Coward Cotton. Tommy had a zest for life and his greatest love was his wife, Shirley.
He retired from a decorated career in the U.S. Army, having served very patriotically in both the Korean and Vietnam wars. After his military career Tommy also worked for and retired from Fluor Daniels construction company.
Tommy is survived by his wife, Shirley W. Cotton, children; Jackie Brown (Charlie), Nanette Hanvey, Les (Robin) and Mike. He was predeceased by his daughter Darlene, son Tom and sisters, Edith Young, Sallie E. James and Lucille Wilson and brothers, Bubba and Bobby. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 11:30-12:45 PM, Monday, January 15th with service to follow at 1:00 PM, at Lebanon United Methodist Church, 10220 Garners Ferry Rd., Eastover. The service will be conducted by Rev. Angela Etheredge with burial immediately following in the church cemetery.
A special thank you to the staff, especially Yalanda and Tracie, at Amedisys Hospice Care, to the entire medical staff at Lexington Medical Center and Dr. Vanhorn for their care and to the many friends and family who visited Tommy at home.
