Mary Price (Kovacich) died at 96 years old, peacefully June 14 at her home in South Carolina, with family by her side.
Mary was born and raised in Youngstown, Ohio. She worked at J.C. Penney Co. for over 40 years. She loved spending time with her family and friends. Always the life of the party, she had a knack for making people feel comfortable and give them a laugh or two when it was needed most.
In 2005 Mary relocated to Lexington, SC to escape the cold weather. Her youngest daughter was nearby to look after her. She quickly established a new extended family as a pseudo Mom to all of her daughter’s friends. She was dearly loved by each and every one of them.
At the age of 92 Mary transitioned from living alone to becoming a part of the Morningside Assisted Living community. She loved all of her new friends and adored the staff. During her last few days, current and past staff members flocked to see her and give her their love and support. When the word was out that “Mrs. Price” had moved on to heaven, one staffer who had cared for Mary from the first day said, “Oh no, I just lost my best friend.” This was Mary’s gift to the world.
Mary was predeceased by her parents, Mary and Roy Kovacich, her husband of 42 years, Arthur Price, Jr. (deceased 1983) and her granddaughter, Tarri Batterby.
She is survived by her sister, Millie Warden (Bill deceased), brother, Roy Kovacich (Sharon), daughters, Carol Brown (Ken deceased), Diana (Amy Lavine), grandchildren, Jim Brown (Stella) and Sharon Voigt (Bill), 4 great - grandchildren, 2 great - great - grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service to celebrate Mary’s life will be held on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at 12:30 PM. The service will take place at the Radius Room in the Davis Education & Visitor Center at the Mill Creek Metropark’s Fellows Riverside Gardens located at 123 McKinley Avenue in Youngstown, Ohio.
