Mark A. Gleaton

Mark A. Gleaton, 58, passed away peacefully with his wife Doris by his side on May 11, 2018 after a two-year battle with cancer (AML). Born May 27, 1959 in San Francisco, CA, he was the son of the late Vera Mae and Julian Gafford Gleaton.

Riding his Harley and going on trips with Doris and the family were some of Mark’s favorite things to do. Music was always important to Mark. He started playing the guitar with his brother as a teen. In the last 15 years Mark played guitar with Hi Cotton Ministries. The Southern Gospel band and ministry was truly his passion. He traveled many miles singing and playing for churches, festivals, nursing homes, GAP Ministry, Relay for Life events, County fairs/SCRAP shows, and benefit concerts throughout the Southeast and Midwest. He was a vital part of the group and will be truly missed.

Mark worked 30+ years for Checker Yellow Cab Company, 29 of which were as dispatcher. When his health forced him to leave his job in 2016, he spent more hours fixing and building computers. Mark was self taught, as this was his natural gift and hobby. He was a man who loved his family well, taking care of many details at home.

When he and Doris were married in 2001 he became the loving father of Angela and Andrew Gruetzmacher.

Mark is survived by his loving wife Doris, Angela McElroy (Dewey McElroy), Andrew Gruetzmacher, grandchildren Ashton Kaden and Adelynn Grace, nephews John and James Gleaton, and nieces Holly Gleaton, Heather Hartley, Diana Gleaton, Crystal Jeffords Crowley.

He is predeceased by his brother John Stuart Gleaton and parents.

Visitation will be Monday, May 14, 2018 from 3-4 p.m. at Christian Fellowship Baptist Church in Gaston, SC. Funeral Services will follow at 4:00 p.m. and burial immediately to follow at the CFBC cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Doris Gleaton.

We will honor Mark’s memory by wearing casual, hippie and Harley attire.

A potluck dinner will follow the graveside committal in the church's Fellowship Hall.
