Marilyn Dimery McVeigh

Marilyn Dimery McVeigh, 70, went to her Heavenly home on Tuesday, September 5, 2017. She was the seventh child born to Wyatt and Ila Dimery of Marion, South Carolina.

Marilyn loved Her Savior Jesus Christ and put Him first in all she did. She also loved her family and one of her greatest pleasures in life was being with them for holidays and family gatherings. She took special pleasure in cooking for them and made the most delicious cakes ever. Her desire to serve others was evident in her loving and caring attitude and hospitality was a true gift of hers.

Marilyn was blessed to have married her high school sweetheart, Ron McVeigh, on September 6, 1968 at Gapway Baptist Church. They were married three hours shy of forty-nine years. In 1971, they were blessed with a beautiful baby girl, Gina Ella McVeigh. Years later Gina would marry Michael T. Muse and their union would be blessed with two wonderful children, Kayla Elizabeth and Michael Austin.

Marilyn’s kind and caring spirt was evident in her unconditional love of her family, friends, and everyone she met, even strangers. She loved with her whole heart and gave her all to everyone she met. She will be missed by all who knew her. Although her body was wracked with pain, she is no longer suffering and we find comfort in knowing that she is no longer in pain and she is in her Heavenly home.

Marilyn is survived by her loving husband, Ron McVeigh, daughter Gina (Michael) Muse, and grandchildren Kayla and Austin Muse. She is also survived by her sister, Ella Kimbrough, and brothers D.L. (Cookie) Dimery and Milton (Frances) Dimery. In addition to her parents, Marilyn is preceded in death by her siblings Allene Strickland, Lloyd Dimery, Arlee Dimery, and Esmond Dimery.

Marilyn was a cherished member of Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church. Prior to this she was a member of Platt Springs Road Church of God and West Columbia Church of God (now known as City of Hope). She was also a member of Ladies Auxillary of the Disabled American Veterans.

A funeral service for Mrs. McVeigh will be held Sunday, 3 pm, September 10, 2017, at Mt. Horeb UMC. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 2 pm. Burial will be held 2 pm, Monday, September 11, 2017, at Ft. Jackson National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Horeb Senior Citizens Adult Ministries, 1205 Old Cherokee Rd., Lexington, SC, 29072. Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Lexington Chapel, is assisting the family.
