Mae Ellen Riedel Mazur was born February 4, 1923 in Cleveland, Ohio. She lived at the Columbia Presbyterian Community in Lexington, SC for the past 12 years. Mae was actively involved in numerous activities including running the former "Convenience Store" for many years. During her time as its manager, she helped raise funds to contribute towards one of the stain class windows in the Chapel. She thoroughly enjoyed and won many prize meal tickets playing Bunco! Mae was very giving of her time with over 25 years volunteering at Providence Hospital and Harvest Hope Food Bank. She served as Newsletter Editor, President and Secretary for the Log Cabin Art Guild of Columbia. In 2012 she was honored by the Columbia Community naming her Volunteer of the Year.
Mae was 72 years of age when she began to oil paint. Who knew she was so very talented! She won a number of awards at South Carolina State Fair's Juried Shows with Still Life with Turquoise Vase winning the blue ribbon. There were also many awards given to her for works entered at the Log Cabin Art Guild Juried Shows.
Surviving are her children, Sue Hemsath of Ithaca, NY, Jane Mazur of Baltimore, MD, and Paul (Deborah) Mazur of Newark, Ohio. Grandchildren are Meesun, Tae, Joseph, and Stephanie. Interment of her ashes at Shandon United Methodist Church's columbarium will be in the Spring of 2020.
