Lynda Cobb McCaskill returned to her heavenly home on Saturday, November 16, 2019. She was born on January 23, 1939, to Mrs. Lida and Mr. Jimmy Cook. After the passing of Jimmy Cook, Lida Liles married Jackson Bailey Cobb, who raised Lynda. She lovingly referred to him as “Daddy Jack” and loved him dearly. She was a proud employee of Carolina Eastman for over thirty years.
She leaves behind family and friends that will miss her dearly. Her brothers, David A. Cobb (Deborah), Jackson L. Cobb (Saleema), daughter Catherine “Cathy” Ann McCaskill, grandson, Joshua McCaskill, nieces Ashley Williams (Michael), Courtney Cobb, Christy Horton (Andy), Wendy Shannon Sullivan (Andrew), many great nieces and nephews, caregiver and close friend, Judy Frank, and “Cuddles,” her four-year old Imperial Shih Tzu, that was the light of her life. She was preceded in death by her son, William “Chan” Chandler McCaskill.
Two of her greatest joys came from the time spent with her church family at Westminster Presbyterian Church, where she was actively involved, and being a founding Member of the “Columbia Golden Girls.” Along with Marilyn Prater, Patty Wooten, Helen Lynn, Nell Witt, Peggy Wilson, Jenny Meetze, and Doris McCallister, Lynda shared a sisterhood over fifty years with this close group of friends; from celebrating Christmas to grieving the loss of a spouse, the “Golden Girls” were always there for each other.
Despite numerous hardships and struggles throughout her life, she was always seen with a smile on her face, a positive attitude, and, of course, being well dressed with some amazing shoes. She could carry a conversation with anyone, especially about politics or her favorite teams, the South Carolina Gamecocks and New England Patriots. Just recently she was able to see her favorite player, Tom Brady, play in person.
Funeral and Visitation Services will be held to celebrate Lynda’s life on Thursday November 21st. Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm and the funeral will follow directly after at Westminster Presbyterian Church at 1715 Broad River Road, Columbia, SC 29210. In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial gift to the Westminster Presbyterian Church. Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Lexington Chapel is assisting the family.
