Julia Mitchell Shealy

Batesburg-Leesville - Julia Mitchell Shealy, 62, passed away peacefully at her home with her family on February 14, 2018. She was the daughter of the late Dr. James R. and Eileen H. Mitchell and a beloved wife, mother and grandmother. Surviving are her husband, Brent Shealy, and children, Jon Shealy (Rebecca), Brian Shealy (Kayce) and Betsy Dority (Gregory) as well as seven grandchildren, Kate, Jack, Annabel, Carson, James, Mary and Cora. She is also survived by her siblings Jim Mitchell (Nadine), Tom Mitchell (Carol), Ruth Brigham (Larry) and Kathy Boykin (Craig). Also surviving are her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Otho and Mary Shealy, sister-in-law, Judy Hays (Howdy), brother-in-law, Neal Shealy (Sharon), as well as 11 nephews and 4 nieces.

  Julia was an active member of Wittenberg Lutheran Church where she faithfully served in a variety of roles and was a dedicated citizen of the Batesburg-Leesville Community. After teaching at Gilbert Elementary School, she was a homemaker and a valuable team member at Economy Furniture Company for 25 years. She was a kind and giving person who loved her church, family, community and others. She cherished her time with her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly.

  The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to family and friends for their untiring support and prayers during Julia’s journey with cancer. They would also like to thank the entire staff of Lexington Oncology, the staff of Lexington Medical Center’s Oncology floor and Compassionate Care Hospice for their excellent and dedicated service.

  A funeral service will be held at Wittenberg Lutheran Church on Sunday, February 18 at 3pm followed by interment at Wittenberg Cemetery. Visitation will be held in the Wittenberg Fellowship Hall on Saturday, February 17 from 5-7pm.

  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wittenberg Lutheran Church and be designated for the Endowment Fund or the Preschool Program.
