Services for Joye Hutto Drafts, 65, will be conducted 3:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Mark's Lutheran Church with the Rev. Pam Turfa officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Saturday at Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Historic B-L Chapel. Mrs. Drafts passed away Thursday, May 31, 2018. Born in Richland County, she was a daughter of the late Bruce Evans and Carolyn Boozer Hutto. She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, where she was a member of the hand bell choir, and formerly served on Church Council as Secretary. Mrs. Drafts spent her entire career in education, spending 9 years in Batesburg-Leesville Schools and 26 years in the Aiken County Public Schools retiring as principal of Ridge Spring-Monetta Elementary and Middle School. Following her retirement from public education, she was the Supervisor of Teaching Interns at USC-Aiken and was an instructor at Western Carolina University. Always active in the community, she was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, Charter member of Alpha Tau Chapter, International and S.C. Reading Assoc, S.C. Middle School Assoc., Saluda (where she serves on the Board of Directors), Edgefield, and Newberry County Historical Societies. She was a member of National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution, Old Edgefield District Chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Lucinda Home Chapter 947, the Great-Grand Daughters and Great Great-Grand Daughters Club, Civil War Trust, National Order of the Blue and Gray, S.C. Genealogical, Central Strates, Old Edgefield District, and Piedmont Archaeological Societies, Authentic Artifact Collectors Assoc., "The Chesopian" Society, S.C. and Saluda Co. Cattleman's Assoc., S.C. Farmers/Agribusiness Assoc., and the Saluda Young Farmers where she served on the Scholarship Committee.
Surviving are a son, Joshua S. (Tiffany) Drafts; sister, Carol Ann Hutto Hiers; grandchildren, Lincoln, Ford, and Caroline Drafts; nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Carroll Drafts, son, Jared Bruce Drafts, and a brother, Phillip B. Hutto.
