Edwin "Ed" Smith

Edwin "Ed" Smith went home to be with  his Savior on Wednesday, October 3, 2018, at the age of 72, after a battle with cancer. He was predeceased by his father and mother, Copeland and Marjorie Smith, and his brother, Marion.

Ed will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 51 years, Shirley, and his daughters, Alison and Mara (Rick). Ed will also be fondly remembered by his six grandchildren, Carlee (Shaddix), Haley, Arizona, Alexis, Austin, and Lacey. Also, he is survived by his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Sarah and Jack Austin.

He was a member of New Life Baptist Church, former member of Grace Baptist Church and an active church choir member. Ed served in the U.S. Navy and was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for over 30 years. He was also a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans.

A funeral service in memory of Ed will be held at Barr-Price Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, on Saturday, October 6, 2018. The visitation will be from 12:30-2 p.m. with service to start at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Celestial Memorial Gardens in West Columbia. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Cancer Society or New Life Baptist Church missionary fund.
