Edward “Ed” Patrick Gavin
Edward "Ed" Patrick Gavin, son of the late Martin and Catherine Gavin, dearly beloved husband of Mary Jane, passed away on October 1st of 2018 in Lexington, SC. The relations and friends of Ed are invited to attend his Mass and Christian burial on Friday, October 19th at 11:00 am at Corpus Christi Catholic Church located at 2350 Augusta Highway in Lexington, SC 29072. The Interment will follow the Mass at the Columbarium at CCC. All are invited to a reception in the parish hall.
Ed is survived by his wife Mary Jane Gavin, 2 sons, Todd Gavin and Thomas Gavin, and 4 grandchildren Morgan, Marian, Hennelly and Michael Gavin. Along with his brothers, Paul Gavin (Pam) and Jim Gavin (Trudy). His sisters Kathleen Carbin, Marge Schultz, and Julie Roughneen. He was predeceased by his siblings Marty Gavin, Bridget Lally(John), John Gavin (Carol), Joe Gavin (Jeanne), Anne Roworth.
After graduating Saugus High School in Saugus, Mass., Ed served in the US Army in Thailand in preparation for the war in Vietnam. After his service in the Army he graduated from Northeastern University with a degree in Industrial Engineering. He retired from American Electric Power Co in Virginia. Ed and Mary Jane moved to Lexington, SC to be near family. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion, served as a Eucharistic Minister and other capacities at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. He volunteered for the DAV and transported fellow disabled veterans to hospitals and other medical facilities for several years. He devoted himself to his faith and Christian values and will be remembered by his personal catchphrase, “make somebody happy today.” He made his family and friends happy on Lake Murray. He enjoyed all sports, especially the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. He enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and abroad.
