Dale Carleton Schupp

Columbia-Dale Carleton Schupp, 73, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2019 after a brief illness.

Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, in 1945 to Carleton and Jean Schupp, Dale was raised in New Orleans, where he met and married his wife of 50 years, Patricia Higgins Schupp. After starting a family, the couple resided in New Orleans; Bangor, Maine; Shreveport, Louisiana; and Columbia, South Carolina where they have lived since 1987.

Dale was a graduate of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and a U.S. Army veteran. He was a long-time employee and 30-year retiree of Delta Air Lines where he was an aircraft mechanic. In retirement, he worked at Clark’s Auto Clinic for 10 years. He enjoyed traveling to the mountains and fishing, and was passionate about racing (drag racing, in particular) home maintenance, and construction projects. Dale could fix just about anything. A life-long dog lover, he enjoyed walking his collie, Lucky. Dale had many good times talking over a few drinks with his friends and family.

Dale and Pat celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in November 2018.

Dale is survived by his wife, Patricia H. Schupp; their three daughters, Emily Almasy and husband Pete Almasy, Camilla Schupp and husband Al Frick, and Dr. Mary Melissa Schupp-Bonin and husband Dr. Glen Bonin; and granddaughters, Maryssa Almasy and Alexandra Almasy, both age 18.
