Services for Clarence Leonard Sox, 86, will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 6, 2018, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 1130 St. Peters Road Lexington, SC 29072 with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, February 5, 2018, at Barr-Price Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. Memorials may be made to the church, or to Bryan Alzheimer's Disease Research Center 2200 West Main Street A-200 Durham, NC 27705.
Mr. Sox passed away Saturday, February 3, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family. Born in Lexington, SC, he was the son of the late Clarence Rudolph and Catherine Lila Harmon Sox. Mr. Sox was a lifelong member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church where he served on church council. An avid Gamecock fan who enjoyed the mountains, he was known as "Papa" to his family and friends. Mr. Sox was a member of the Lexington Masonic Lodge, the Jamil Shrine and was a part-time employee of Addy Dodge of Lexington. He retired from Southern Bell with 28 years of service, retired from the National Guard with 22 years of service and served on Lexington County Council for 4 years. Mr. Sox was a member of the Lake Murray Volunteer Fire Department for 45 years where he served as a Fire Chief.
Survivors include a daughter, Lynn Sox Porth (Albert), grandchildren, Julie Porth Smith (Marcus), Brett Porth (Jennie), Mark Porth (fiancé, Amanda), great-grandchildren, Garrett, Rylee and Gracie Ray Smith, Trey, Grayson and Elliot Porth, sisters, Marlene Harmon (Don) and Rebecca Smith (Alan), He was predeceased by his wife, Nancy Davis Sox, and a son, Mark Sox.
