Chandler Mahnken Obituary

Chandler Lucas Mahnken died on May 16, 2019. He was born October 9, 1928 to Henry Chandler Mahnken, M.D. and Marian Lucas Mahnken in Brooklyn Heights, New York.  He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Muhlenberg College in Pennsylvania.  He served as a Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps  during the Korean conflict and then studied business at NYU and earned an MBA.  He was with the international division of Chase Manhattan Bank and The Royal Bank and Trust Company in New York. He resided in Darien, CT until 1983 when he retired to Savannah, GA.

Chandler served as a Post Commodore of the Landings Yacht Club in Savannah, GA. and was active with the United Way for many years serving as a Director and Chair of Planning and Allocations. He had a deep soft spot for dogs, especially his yellow lab, Gus.  Chandler was a true gentleman, a man of ethics.  He had a quick wit about him and will be greatly missed by his family.  He was pre-deceased by his parents and his sister, Aline.  He is survived by his wife, Jean; and her daughter, Katy (Jim) McCrudden of Lexington, SC; her son, David (Stephanie) Meeker of Haymarket, Virginia; her late daughter Dorothy’s husband, Jeff Dugas of Orlando Fl; and grandchildren, John, Mary Kate, Abby, Jackson, Ansley, Jonathan, Tori, Ben, Connor, Luke, Zachary, and Benjamin.

A service to honor his life will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2019 at 10 a.m. at Boyce Chapel, First Baptist Church Columbia. Burial will follow at Ft. Jackson National Cemetery at 1:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Homeward Bound Pet Rescue, P. O. Box 4335, Irmo, SC 29063.
