Steven Guy McKoy, 66 years old, passed away on March 27, 2024, at 8:45 am. He was born in Columbia, SC to Adala Mack McKoy and the late Thomas Albert McKoy Jr.
Steve was raised in Sandy Run, SC. His musical roots extend back to his childhood days playing bass in his dad’s band. He cut his first record at age 12. He was a six-time finger style champion in the state of Georgia and a two-division national champion in Kentucky. He was a multi-instrumentalist and taught guitar, banjo, and harmonica at Midlands Technical College. In addition to his solo act, he had a 4-piece Classic Country band with his McKoy Brothers, a 2-piece duo with brother, Randy McKoy, and he had many Gospel, Christmas, and music CD’s.
Steve was also Pastor for 10 years to his beloved Camden Seventh Day Adventist Church family and did missionary work in Israel, Romania, Japan, and Africa.
He is survived by his wife, Michelle; his daughter, Alexia; his mother, Adala; his brothers, Michael and Randy; his sisters, Sherry and Fran; and many other great nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles, as well as many dear friends in his church and music communities.
He was predeceased by his father, Thomas Albert McKoy, Jr.
A visitation will be held on Friday, April 5th, 2024 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm., at the West Columbia Seventh Day Adventist Church, 3408 Delree Street, West Columbia, SC.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 6th, 2024 at 3:00 pm at Beulah United Methodist Church, 1577 Old State Road, Gaston, SC. Barr-Price Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, is assisting the family.
