Sarah Shepard Weaver

Sarah Shepard Weaver, 44, of West Columbia, SC, passed from this life to her place in the Father’s house on April 16, 2024, following a devastating brain injury of unknown origin. The daughter of Rev. J. Dudley Weaver and Mary Schutt Weaver, she was born in Columbia and reared here, in Savannah, and in Charleston. A graduate of Middleton High School (Charleston) and Converse College, Sarah excelled in academics and in building friendships.

A faithful and active member of All Saints Episcopal Church, Sarah was a welcoming presence at the Cayce/West Columbia Library, for 17 years. She loved her work, and her co-workers, and the library’s patrons.

A bright light in a weary world, Sarah met the daily challenges of bipolar disorder with intense effort, resilience, and hope, helping others in their struggles with mental illness and refusing to be defined by her diagnosis.

Preceded in death by her best friend of 28 years, Melissa Legare Brown, Sarah is survived by her parents, of West Columbia; her brother, Paul (Amber); her niece, Olivia and nephew, Isaac, of Asheville, NC; her aunts, Edie Weaver and Lyn Weaver Ragan and her family, of West Columbia; her uncles, William (Genie) and Edward (Sue) Schutt and their families of Richmond, VA; and her beloved cat, Blanche.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at All Saints Episcopal Church, 1001 12th Street, Cayce, SC. Interment will follow in the church’s memorial garden. Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Lexington Chapel is assisting the family.
