On March 21, 2024, Martha Boykin Cain, departed this earthly life peacefully, and is now in the presence of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Martha was born December 1, 1937, in Sumter County, South Carolina to the late Joseph William and Frances Richardson Boykin. She married her childhood sweetheart Richard Cain, Jr. on December 24, 1956. Together, they raised 3 sons Rick, Joe, and Bob. During her childhood, she was a member of Hebron Presbyterian Church in Sumter. She later became a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Columbia, SC and was a member until her death.
Martha’s faith, kindness, and generosity were experienced by many. She enjoyed cooking, entertaining, church activities, and family time. She was devoted to her husband and family. Martha was a beloved office worker at Irmo Elementary School where she maintained lifelong friendships. She spread her kindness through her church circle, Bible studies, and conveying her love for our Lord through her thoughts, prayers, and actions. She brightened the lives of everyone who was blessed enough to know her.
She is survived by her sons, Rick and his wife, Nan and Bob and his wife, Cathy; her daughter-in-law, Alisa; 6 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and numerous close friends that she considered family.
Martha is predeceased by her parents; husband, Richard; son, Joe; and daughter-in-law, Jayne.
The family appreciates the love and support given by the members and staff of the First Presbyterian Church of Columbia. The family also wishes to express sincere appreciation to the staff of the Laurel Crest Retirement Community and to the staff of All Seasons Hospice Group.
A Memorial service will be held 2:00 pm, Saturday, April 6, 2024, at the First Presbyterian Church, 1324 Marion Street, Columbia, SC 29201. There will be refreshments following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Martha’s name to the ALS Association ALSA Georgia Chapter 5881 Glenridge Dr Suite 200 Atlanta GA 30328 or First Presbyterian Church 1324 Marion Street, Columbia, SC 29201. Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Lexington Chapel, is assisting the family.
