It is with great sadness that the family of Wesley F. Ward, Sr. announces his passing after a sudden illness on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at the age of 80.
Wesley will be lovingly remembered by his wife Mildred of 52 years and his sons, Wesley, Jr (Sandra), Michael (Beth), Richard (Jessica) and grandchildren Wesley (Terra), Alanna,and Nicholas, siblings June Thomas, Roger Ward (Melba), Paul Ward (Audrey), Hank Ward (Linda), Susie Seymour (Ron), Ruthie Walters and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Mr. Edward and Doris Ward, brothers Howard Ward, Doug Ward, Pauline Currie, Bruce Ward and two infant brothers.
Wesley was born on September24, 1937 in Underhill, VT where he attended school and participated in athletics. He was later drafted by the US Army and sent to Fort Jackson, SC for training prior to deployment to Vietnam. There is where he met his wife. Eight years later, after serving his country, and touring the world, Wesley set roots in Columbia. He found employment at the U.S. Postal Service and retired with 36 years of service.
After retirement, Wesley kept himself busy helping his sons and taking care of grandkids. He was always willing to lend a hand with his mechanical expertise. He enjoyed going to garage sales with his wife, playing cards, fishing, family gatherings, and BBQ buffets. Wesley always joked and laughed even through the worst times. He was especially fond of the times of laughter with his boys.
Wesley will be remembered as a warm, friendly, and caring husband, father and friend to all he met. His mild, easy going attitude, allowed his trusted optimistic advice guide those in need. For those of whom had the pleasure to know him… the words are the same: sweetest man ever. He will be forever missed.
A Celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, April 21. at Barr-Price funeral home: 609 Northwood Rd. Lexington S.C. The family will receive friends at 2pm., with the service starting at 3pm.
