Walter S. Walker

Walter S. Walker passed away at home on August 12, 2017.  Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 14, 2017, at Trinity Baptist Church, Charleston Highway, Cayce, SC.  Visitation will be held at 10:00 am, one hour before the funeral service at Trinity Baptist Church.  There will be a private graveside service for the family following the funeral. 

Walter was the son of the late Bob and Annie Walker of Blackville, SC.  Walter graduated from Blackville High School and from Clemson University with a commission of Army Second Lieutenant.  He also received his Master’s Degree in Education from the University of South Carolina. 

While serving in the Army Infantry in Korea, he received the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, the Bronze Star with “V” Device for Heroic action, and the Purple Heart for wounds received in combat.  He retired as Captain, US Army Infantry Reserves.

Walter was employed by Clemson University as a Professor of Poultry Science. He was stationed at Sandhill Experiment Station and traveled throughout the state of SC.  Walter retired after thirty years with Clemson; but has continued to support his beloved Clemson Tigers.

Walter is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary Sue Talbert Walker, his daughters, Susanne Cross of Cayce, SC, and Patricia Mitchell of Lexington, SC, his son, Walter S. Walker, Jr. (Cheryl) of Hoover, AL., six grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and two sisters, Margie Smith of Colorado and Martha Smith of Georgia.  The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Hospice Care of South Carolina for their compassion care and support.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Trinity Baptist Church, 2003 Charleston Hwy, Cayce, SC, 29033.
