Shelby Jean (Birch) Mathews

Lexington - On Friday November 3, Shelby Jean Birch Mathews, 78 was ushered into the presence of her Lord and Savior and the glorious splendors of Heaven. Everyone who met Shelby immediately saw the beauty of Christ shining in her life.

Shelby was known for her servant’s heart, using her many God-given talents in any capacity possible. A prime example of a Proverbs 31 woman, Shelby will be remembered for the love and care she exemplified in her daily life. All who met her were truly blessed to know such a beautiful soul.

For 57 years, Shelby was the devoted wife of Mr. John L. Mathews. She is survived by her husband, John L.; 2 children: Jonathan (Shannon) Mathews, Janet (Chip) Eleazer; daughter-in-law, Teresa; 5 grandchildren: Daniel Mathews, Brandon (Moriah) Mathews, Joshua Mathews, Jessica Mathews, and Ashton Eleazer; 1 great-grand, Carson Mathews; and 4 siblings. She was predeceased by her oldest son Carlton Mathews, parents Carl and Lillian Birch, and siblings Harold Birch and Janelle Vinson.

Services will be 1pm Monday, November, 6, 2017 at City of Hope Worship Center. Burial will follow in Woodridge Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Sunday November 5, 2017 from 4-6pm at Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium Lexington Chapel.
