Services for The Rev. William B. Kyzer, 86, will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 6, 2017 at St. James Lutheran Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held 6 - 8 p.m. Wednesday at Barr-Price Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel.
Rev. Kyzer, retired, died on July 2, 2017. He was born on June 9, 1931 in Lexington County (Red Bank), SC to the late Bryan M. Kyzer and Ola Mae Sharpe Kyzer.
Pastor Kyzer served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War (1951-1954). He graduated from Newberry College in 1961 and the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary in 1964. He was ordained by the SC Synod of The Lutheran Church in America in 1964. During his ministry he served at Mt. Hermon, Peak, and Mt. Olivet, Chapin (1964-1969); as a Board Missionary in Gaffney (1969-1971); St. Paul's Gaffney (1971-1977); St. Luke, Columbia (1977-1996). After retirement, Pastor Kyzer served as visitation minister at his home congregation of St. James, Lexington and as a volunteer chaplain at Lexington Medical Center.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Kathryn Mishoe Kyzer; children, Faith Wright (Terry), Angela Brown (Mike), and William Bryan Kyzer, Jr.; 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a son, Paul Bryan Kyzer.
