Ransford Allison Potter II, 73, died at home July 3, 2017. He was born January 3, 1944 in Ashland, KY, to Ransford and Clarice Potter. He grew up in Leesburg, FL, where he was active in the Boy Scouts and earned the Eagle Scout badge. He graduated from the University of Georgia and earned a master’s degree from Boston University.

Rans served with the Fifth Special Forces Group during the Vietnam War. He was awarded the Bronze Star for Heroism after he led a unit of 150 Vietnamese men (montagnards) into Cambodia. Two North Vietnamese battalions were operating in the area, but Rans and his men completed the mission by destroying two key supply bridges. He continued to serve in the Army and retired in 1988.

Rans was married to his wife, Nena, for 44 years. He is a member of Shandon Baptist Church and taught children’s Sunday School for many years. He loved fly fishing for bream, his dachshund, Casey, and telling everyone he met about Jesus, his Savior.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, July 8, at 2:00 at Barr-Price Funeral Home in Lexington, SC. Visitation will be at 1:00. Internment will be at the Troutdale Cemetery in Virginia.
