Oren Fields, 89, formerly of Cutler Ridge, FL, passed away September 11, 2017 at his residence in Pelion. He was born in McVeigh, KY to the late Arnold Fields and Zettie Sullivan Fields. Visitation will be held 6 - 8 p.m. Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at Barr-Price Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. A funeral service will be held Friday, September 15, 2017 at Rogers Funeral Home in Belfry, KY with burial at Mountain View Memorial Gardens in Huddy, KY.
He left home at an early age, lied about his age, and joined the US Navy in WWII where he fought in the Philippine Islands and Asiatic-Pacific Campaign. Upon returning to KY, he married his sweetheart, Ernestine Hurley. They spent 69 years together. He was a coal miner in KY and WV. They moved to FL in 1959. He was the owner of "Oren's Standard Oil" and "Oren's Automotive" in Cutler Ridge, FL until he retired. Throughout his life, he won many medals and ribbons in coon hunting, bowling, stockcars, TQ Midgets, and archery. He loved to hunt and fish. He was a loving husband to Ernestine, who passed in 2015.
He is survived by a son, Eddie (Emily) Fields of Pelion, daughters, Brenda Earl of Pelion, and Patty (Danny) Oliver of Franklin Furnace, Ohio, brother-in-laws, Carrol Hurley of West Columbia and James (Phyllis) Hurley of LaGrange, KY, sister-in-law, Peggy (Jenis) Ingle of Pelion, 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
He is preceded in death by sisters, Corie, Ermie, Joy, and Pauline, brothers, Arnold Jr., Onard, and Frank.
