Joel Joe Turner

Joel “Joe” Clifton Turner of West Columbia, SC passed away on Wednesday, January 3, 2018, at the age of 85.

Joe was born in Kinards, South Carolina on April 15, 1932. He was the son of the late James Robert Turner and Mary Elizabeth Long Turner. Surviving is his wife of 62 years Carolyn G. Turner; son Joel “Eddie” Turner and his wife Rebecca of West Columbia, SC and daughter Lisa Turner Phillips of West Columbia, SC; Grandchildren Christy T. Hannon and her husband Mike of Lexington, SC; Casey T. Beach and her husband Daniel of Walterboro, SC; Hannah L. Wagster and her husband Brandon of Myrtle Beach; Benjamin J. Mertz and his love Katie of West Columbia; Noah J. Phillips of West Columbia, SC; Great-Grandchildren Abigail Beach, Madison Hannon, John Hannon, Andrew Beach, and Luke Beach; brothers Lewis Turner and his wife Shirley of James Island, SC and Malcolm Turner and his wife Leila of Lexington, SC. He was predeceased by his daughter Cathy Lynn Turner of West Columbia, SC and his brother Robert Lee Milton Turner of Newberry.

He served as a member of the United States Army and served in the Korean War. He was a Mason with the Gaston Lodge # 382, and a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church. He was a long time employee of Rose Talbert Paint and enjoyed his work until his passing. He was a servant of his community and could always be found helping others. He will be forever remembered as a quiet man that stood proudly and loved his family and friends.

A graveside service celebrating Joe’s life will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at Shiloh United Methodist Church, 546 Gardners Terrace Road, West Columbia SC 29172. There will be a viewing an hour before the service. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Shiloh United Methodist Church.
