James "Stan" Jeffcoat Obituary

Pastor George Koon will officiate a Celebration of Life at Gaston First Baptist Church in Gaston, SC on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at 2:00 pm with visitation at 1:00 pm to honor James Stanley Jeffcoat, known to most as "Stan". Stan went home to be with his Lord and Savior on March 17, 2018. Stan has now been reunited in heaven with his parents, James and Herschel Jeffcoat, nephews, Kevin Koon and Jessie Sturkie, and his in-laws, Velma Spradley and Sonny Sturkie.

20 years ago, Stan's walk with God was deepened by his first serious diagnosis of cancer. He felt blessed that he had found such peace with his God and this closeness intensified when he was diagnosed again 4 years ago. Stan's faith provided the foundation for his long and difficult journey and courageous battle. While enduring extreme pain and extenuating circumstances, his Faith in God never wavered. His desire was that God would allow him to be a witness of what God had done in his life, even through the times of difficulty in talking.

Stan was an advocate for the Special Needs Community. He loved hosting Special Olympic parties for athletes and coaches. He always was happy to step up in whatever capacity that was needed for Special Olympic events as a coach, chaperone, cook, etc. He always displayed much love and compassion for this special community of individuals.

Stan worked tirelessly throughout his career to ensure that his family would be provided for at his death. Stan had much success in the construction industry. He lived in Gaston his entire life until recently moving to Lexington. Stan was  a private man with much wisdom and a "Jack of all trades". His quick wit and tenacity made him loved by those close to him.

Stan enjoyed traveling throughout the US as well as international travels. He, his wife, and granddaughter, along with Ted and Cheryl Koon, made many precious memories in their many adventures in traveling. Stan's favorite vacation spot was the laid back Florida Keys.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Sturkie Jeffcoat, who was the love of his life for 35 years, his special needs granddaughter of the home, Kyrstin Kneece, children and their spouses, Hope Johnson (Jimmy), Brad Mack (Melissa), Brantley Mack (Shanna); Beautiful and precious grandchildren, Tristen and Colby Johnson, Cole and Reid Mack, Weston and Sunnie Mack, Carter, Jackson, and Jamie Bowen, Taylor Kirkland, sister and brother-in-law, Cheryl and Ted Koon, brothers and spouses, Billy Jeffcoat (Diane), Randy Jeffcoat (Brenda), Bucky Jeffcoat (Allyson) and numerous nieces and nephews.

Stan endured his illness with courage and determination, maintaining his wonderful sense of humor. He did not fear death. He knew absolutely that he was heading to the beautiful and peaceful place called heaven.

The family would like to thank Donna Goodwin with Pathway Hospice for her love and special care in this final journey. Also a heartfelt thanks to Julie Blair of MUSC for her friendship, compassion, and encompassing support over the past 4 years.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Stan's memory can be made to Special Olympics-Adults For Life; PO Box 214; Swansea, SC 29160.
