James "Jim" Allen Wine, 80, went to be with his Savior and Lord on Thursday, March 15, 2018. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at 12:30 p.m. in Boyce Chapel of First Baptist Church of Columbia with a private burial to follow. Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 11:00 a.m.
Jim was born February 26, 1938 in Warrenton, VA to the late Ruth Elizabeth McClanahan and James Peter Wine. He loved the Shenandoah Valley, having spent time on their farm in Staunton. A graduate of Suitland High, Class of 1956, his first job was at The Library of Congress. He joined the Air National Guard, transferring to McEntire Air National Guard base to attend and graduate from Columbia Bible College. Jim was involved in church outreach through visitation and evangelism, taught Sunday School, and led various Bible studies.
While in Columbia, he worked at Wilbur Smith and Associates and in Baltimore, MD he worked at Matz/Childs and Associates. Returning to Columbia, he worked for Dick Smith Automotive and then for Michelin Tire Co. for 20 years.
He enjoyed the "old car hobby" being in several car clubs. His special interests were 1950's Chryslers, 300 letter series, Plymouths and Dodges. He also enjoyed Glen Miller music.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dian Glenn Wine; daughters, Beth Wine Clifton (Mark) of Rock Hill, SC and Julie Wine Best (Burrell) of Columbia, SC; son, Glenn Allen Wine of Charleston, SC; grandchildren, Vilena Elise, Ruthie Ann, and Nathan James Hrebar; Glenn River and William Lake Wine, Elise Caroline, Olivia Renae, Brycen Guerard Best; brother, Lee Fredrick Wine of Washington, DC.
