James Patrick "Pat" Backman

James Patrick "Pat" Backman, 34, was called home on Friday, December 8, 2017.  Pat was one of a kind; a loving soul with a heart of gold and twisted sense of humor.  He faced more challenges and struggles than anyone should have to, but he remained a fighter who didn't let his hardships make him bitter.

Pat is survived by his mother, Martha Russell and stepfather, David Russell of Pelion; his sister, Connie Backman of Columbia; nieces, Havanna and Kayden Hamiter and Skylar Randolph; several aunts, uncles and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, James Webster and Jean Sturkie Backman of Pelion, and maternal grandparents, James Nelson and Sylvia Boone Berry of Pelion.
